Science through the lens of diversity

Pint of Science is an annual science festival, and this year, will take place from the 19th to the 21st of May. At these events, researchers will showcase the latest happenings in the world of science at your local pub or cafe.

This year, the festival will be held simultaneously across 25 countries, including the Netherlands. Here, we will host 19 events in 9 cities. So don’t miss out on the perfect opportunity for you to meet the people shaping the science of tomorrow. Come and have a drink with them!

On the first night of the event in Nijmegen, Pint of Science will partner up with Science Cafe at The Shamrock! On that day, we will have a discussion about the science behind modern conflicts (in Dutch) in the usual Science Cafe format. In the following two nights, Pint of Science continues at De Klinker (English) on Tuesday and at De Opstand on Wednesday (English), inviting the audience to know more about diverse perspectives in science, and how that impacts the daily research of scientists. The talks will cover miscellaneous topics like the neuroscience behind different emotions, the science behind non-monogamous relationships, and insights we can gain from indigenous philosophies.

Pint of Science is een jaarlijks wetenschapsfestival, en zal dit jaar van 19 tot en met 21 mei plaatsvinden. Tijdens deze bijeenkomsten zullen verschillende onderzoekers de laatste ontwikkelingen in de wereld van de wetenschap in de spotlight zetten in je lokale pub of café.

Het festival zal dit jaar in 25 landen tegelijk gehouden worden, waaronder Nederland. Hier organiseren wij 19 bijeenkomsten in 9 steden. Mis deze kans om de mensen van de wetenschap van morgen te ontmoeten niet, kom langs en drink samen een drankje!

Op de eerste avond van de bijeenkomst in Nijmegen, zal Pint of Science samenkomen met Science Cafe bij de Shamrock. Die dag zullen we een discussie hebben over de wetenschap achter moderne conflicten (in het Nederlands) in het Science Café format. In de twee avonden daarna, zal Pint of Science doorgaan bij de Klinker (in het Engels) op dinsdag en bij de Opstand op woensdag (ook in het Engels). Hier zal het publiek uitgenodigd worden meer over de diverse perspectieven in wetenschap, en hoe dit impact heeft op het dagelijks onderzoek van wetenschappers, te weten te komen. De presentaties zullen verscheidene onderwerpen behandelen, zoals de neurowetenschap achter verschillende emoties; de wetenschap achter niet-monogame relaties; en de inzichten die we uit inheemse filosofie kunnen halen.
